Boat shows are all about the heat of the industry. It’s an opportunity for everyone to showcase their latest and greatest – it’s about what’s hot and happening. And even though every brand and dealer is vying to be seen as the leader of the pack, what’s special about the Johannesburg Boat Show is that it’s the coming together of the industry. Leisure Boating magazine gives you the ‘unofficial-official’ guide to the show to plan your day with the family, as well as which are the top stands to visit, how to scoop some specials, and where you can hit the prize lists!
Last year, we saw the launch of the marine industry’s very own boat show – and what a success that turned out to be! Following on from that achievement the Johannesburg Boat Show is back this month from the 8-11 August at the NASREC show grounds and it promises to be bigger, better, and more fun in every way! With so much to see and do in one day, it’s almost impossible to see everything – so we’re making it a little easier for you by plotting your course for the day.
With numerous shows on the South African boating calendar, what is it that makes this one so special? Firstly, it’s not just a boat show. With one entry ticket (R80 per adult; R40 per pensioner; Free for kids under 12 years old), you’ll get automatic entry to the shows which are going down on the same weekend at the ground: that means just 1 ticket = 5 great shows! The Johannesburg Boat Show is, or at the very least to me anyway, the biggest South African boat exhibition, showcasing boats, toys, accessories, gear, and much, much more.
To get the low down on what to expect from a few of the exhibitors, we got the inside scoop. Here’s what you can expect from just a few of the biggest in the game this year…
Boating International
Stand number: 6C003, 6D002 and 6G002 On show: If you’re on the hunt for specials, the Boating International stand is the place to find them. Featuring a massive exhibit space, the fast-growing company has pulled out all the stops and look forward to bringing you the full range of Sea Doo watercraft and Malibu wake craft – and don’t forget to scope the all-new, all-impressive Malibu 24 MXZ which will certainly be their main attraction! If ‘local is lekker’ when it comes to your choice in boats, Boating International will also be showcasing their homegrown Sunsport and Ace Gliders ranges, as well as hosting their Cape Town branch with a set of Infanta RIBs to ensure everyone’s taste is catered for. A separate 100 m2 accessories stand can also be found for their range of toys and is sure to give plenty of options for this summer season.
