BOATING EXTRAVAGANZA EGOLI!

Spring, the transition between winter and summer, and coupled with ideas of rebirth, renewal and re-growth, is also aptly the launch time of the new and official 2012 Johannesburg Boat Show. Hosted by the JHB Expo Centre in Nasrec on the weekend of the 24-26 August, the JHB Boat Show will dawn a new era in boating exhibition for boat lovers across South Africa. Leisure Boating provides a comprehensive guide of what you can expect to find (and what specials are on offer!) at this much-anticipated boating event

From the 24-26th of August, come and bask in the first days of spring when the newly launched Johannesburg Boat Show will be in full swing at the JHB Expo Centre, Nasrec. This official and association-owned Boat Show will feature some of the hottest watercraft currently found on our waterways, brought to you by the leading brands in the business.
In announcing this newly-formed event, chairperson of the organising committee Dan Savadier (dealer principal of Waterworld) welcomed the decision of members to take this all-important marketing step. “The industry has to take charge of its destiny and staging a boat show forms an important part of our marketing strategy. This will be best achieved if driven by the industry members themselves,” said Savadier.

According to show director Phillip Otto, the JHB Boat Show will be held in conjunction with the AMID Motorcycle Show and the Outdoor Lifestyle Show exhibition and he anticipates that it’ll be the “Biggest Outdoor Show in Africa”. Comprising 13 000 m² of floor space, the JHB Boat Show will be brimming with various boating exhibitions, activities, workshops, competitions and seminars. For a mere R60, adults have access to all three exhibitions, while children under the age of 12 are granted free access to all the shows (tickets available at the door or from Computicket).

Phillip urges boat-loving family men to bring their children down to the show as “there’ll be plenty of activities for them to enjoy”. Apart from a big wakeboarding demonstration, there’ll also be a fun fair, simulators, a mono rail and a large Diving Expo that’s extremely kid-friendly. A large ticket draw will also be held over the weekend, where one lucky visitor to the show will stand a chance to win up to R70 000 in cash vouchers which you can spend at any of the major boat retailers present at the show. Other prizes include a complimentary weekend stay at the Riviera Hotel along the Vaal River along with the use of a Sensation boat (for two hours per day, including skipper) compliments of Twin Boats and Trailers. The Twins will also be throwing in one of their newly-built camping trailers (worth R30 000) as an additional show prize – visit their stand for more details on these unbelievable prizes up for grabs! Leisure Boating will also be offering some amazing prizes – you can stand a chance to win a R20 000 holiday at Machangulo Beach Lodge in Mozambique! Simply subscribe to Leisure Boating magazine before the 26th of August and you’ll automatically be entered into the draw.

The draw will take place at the JHB Boat Show. Visit our stand (6C004) for more details. Another exciting prospect at the JHB Boat Show will be the “SA Boating Legends” seminars, where several veterans of the South African boating industry will be honoured for their services to the SA boating industry, and also share some their experiences and stories. Formula One legend Peter Lindenberg is already confirmed to be a guest speaker at the show – not to be missed! Whether you’re in the market for a wakeboard-, waterski-, bass-, fishing-, ski-, house- or high-performance boat; or perhaps a jetski, PWC, dinghy, inflatable, RIB, inboard, outboard, electronics, accessories, servicing, safety equipment, navigation systems, sport fishing equipment or destinations, then the 2012 JHB Boat Show is the place to be – there’s something for everyone!
