Mitchell rocks out at Wakestock ’12
WAKEBOARDING
South Africa’s prodigal Wakeboarding son, Dylan Mitchell cracked the nod to go to the prestigious Wakestock Wakeboarding competition in Abersoch, Wales.
Holding his own among the top riders in the world, Dylan finished in a respectable 6th spot in the Pro Men..
Wakestock is a well-known Wakeboarding and music festival in the UK and is split over three sites on the picturesque Llyn Peninsula in North West Wales. With the Snowdonia Mountains to the west and beautiful beaches stretching along the coastline, the Llyn Peninsula is considered one of the most scenic regions in the United Kingdom.
Wakestock essentially began as a Wakeboard competition with a car park party on the side, but it has since evolved and the 2012 music line-up includes names such as Dizzee Rascal, The All American Rejects, Funeral for a Friend, Calvin Harris, and many other big acts…
The Wakeboarding itself took place in the market town of Pwllheli’s marina. The Wakestock boat competition is world renowned for breathing fear into the bravest of riders with its unpredictable tide-influenced wakes and huge obstacles. Every year the best of the best is invited to the event and past winners include Adam Errington, Dan Nott, the celebrated Mark Kenney, Craig O’Meara, Nick Davies and other heroes of the sport.
This year’s entry list was no less legendary and included the best wakeboarders from all around the world, including Cape Town’s own Dylan Mitchell. Leisure Boating’s Richard Brown spoke to Dylan about the event.
