The competition that will separate the men from the boys is set to kick off on the 1st of June 2015 at 05H00 and run for the whole month, ending on 30 June 2015 at 16H00. The Piranha Inshore Competition (PIC) will be one of SA’s toughest game fishing competitions to date and will give anglers equal opportunity to battle it out for one month, after which the top boat and top anglers in various divisions will be awarded the ultimate bragging rights.

The nitty-gritty

The fishable perimeters will be the strip stretching from Hangklip to Lambertsbaai on the West Coast. All boat entries will have a maximum of five anglers, including the skipper. Only if a team submits an entry for the Top Boat competition will they be eligible for the Top Boat prize. The entry fee for Top Boat is R850 and entitles the boat and crew to participate in the other four divisions also.

Top Boat competitors will battle it out for the highest weight total, comprising Yellowtail caught during the month of June. A maximum of five (the biggest five) Yellowtail can be entered into the competition by each team every week. At the end of the contest the boat with the highest total weight of Yellowtail will be crowned the Top Boat with a floating trophy and prizes from Raymarine, Seaport Supply and Reef SA.

The angler divisions will allow the entrants to battle it out head to head to decide the top performers in the Yellowtail Division and Snoek Division. Each division will run separately and entries will be R350 per angler. Anglers can fish off any boat; as long as they have registered, they will be eligible for prizes. The angler with the heaviest Yellowtail by the end of the competition will be crowned Top Angler and receive a floating trophy with prizes from Seaport Supply and Reef SA. The runner-up will receive a two-night stay at Juffroushoogte Guest Farm including breakfast for two.
