The 2011/2012 Waterski season will see seven different waterski sites across the country playing host to a total of eight tournaments, and it promises to be a very exciting season with two major international events taking place within South Africa.
The first international event is the 2012 u/21 European and African Championships being held at Lake Grappa in the Northern Cape from the 27th of March to the 4th of April 2012, where skiers from across Europe and Africa will be travelling to Kakamas in Namaqualand to compete.
The second event is the bi-annual All African Championships which has been awarded to the country’s most scenic site — Satellite Dam (near Albert Fall Dam, Pietermaritzburg) from the 6th to the 9th April 2012, which is also set to be a humdinger of a skiing competition!
The next big competition coming up will be held at Bon Esperanza in Cape Town, situated along the N7 from the 9th to 11th December 2011, which is the site for the 2012 South African Championships in March 2012.
Besides all of these listed tournaments, both KwaZulu-Natal and Western Province hold regular mini-league competitions. The mini leagues are aimed at bridging the gap between recreational skiers and tournament skiers. It’s a fun-filled event where SA top skiers as well as novice skiers run through the slalom course and compete on a handicap system! Any skier may enter, no matter what level of skiing they are at. Come out, ski and enjoy this awesome watersport with them!
