The 7 000-ha Doorndraai Dam nature reserve lies on the Sterk River in the beautifully scenic foothills of the Waterberg Range in Limpopo province. It is situated
between Mokopane in the north and Mookgophong in the south and boasts a wide variety of woodland habitats such as broad-leaved woodland, riverine woodlands and acacia trees.

What’s your game?

There is a fantastic selection of game found in the reserve including antelope, kudu, mountain reedbuck, blue wildebeest, bushbuck, impala, leopard, and steenbuck. Keep your eyes open and you will see other Doorndraai Dam Nature Reserve game species such as waterbuck, duiker, zebra, giraffe, warthog, klipspringer, bushpig, genet, brown hyena, African wild cat, aardvark, black-footed cat, honey badger, hedgehog and otter.

The 14 kilometre long road that extends along the shore of the dam makes for easy game viewing.

Let’s go fishing!

The reserve offers excellent fishing with it crystal clear waters offering up largemouth bass, kurper, carp and barbell. Bring along all your fishing tackle, rods, reels and baits of your choice because you are assured of catching something. If for some reason you are not on top of your fishing game and come back empty handed from a relaxing few hours on the water, will it really matter?

There are numerous other fun tasks that need your attention such as making the perfect braai fire. You’re the braai master after all, holding your doubly delicious beverage in one hand and the braai tongs in the other.
