Leisure Boating looks at a few innovative marine products from around the world designed to ease and improve your overall boating experience.
Bowlights Light the Way for Safe Boating
Whether cruising late at night or in the early hours of the morning before sunrise, boaters need adequate lighting to ensure their safety. Accon Marine’s LED Pop- Up Bowlights provide the illumination needed without sacrificing style. The company offers two LED models, the 211-M and 210-M.
Both models are approved for two nautical miles. Keeping the deck free of protrusions, both fold down flush with the deck when not in use. Constructed from 316 stainless steel, these powerful illuminating lights are offered in red and green. Easy to install, the 211-M model fits in the same cutout as Accon’s 204-M light for easy upgrading. Each light comes with a cut-out template and fastens with three #10 screws. A stud-mount version, with no visible screw holes, is offered as well.
The 210-M model only requires owners to drill a 9 cm diameter hole using a hole saw. Then, the light can be fastened with three #10 screws.
Wireless Weather Centre Provides Local Conditions Instantly
Giving users all the weather data they need for home or boating, Davis Instruments’ Vantage Vue Wireless Weather Station provides accurate, reliable weather monitoring in a self-contained, easy-to-install system. It’s perfect for people who want to monitor weather conditions at their home, lake house, marina, yacht club or dock.
Users can see current weather conditions, including indoor and outdoor temperature and humidity, barometric pressure, wind speed and direction, dew point and rainfall. Vantage Vue also provides weather forecast icons, moon phase, sunrise and sunset times, graphing of weather trends and alarms. Its innovative Weather Centre button displays additional data on weather variables for the current day and for the previous 25 days.
Sleek, but tough, the outdoor sensor suite sets up in minutes and starts sending data wirelessly to the LCD console anywhere in a home or business. The Vantage Vue’s frequency-hopping spread spectrum radio ensures consistent transmission up to 300 m from the integrated sensor suite to console.
A solar panel powers the station during the day. An onboard super capacitor provides power at night, while a lithium battery provides backup support when needed. A radiation shield protects the temperature/humidity sensor from solar radiation and other sources of radiated and reflected heat, resulting in highly accurate measurements. Vantage Vue’s corrosion-resistant cover provides durability in extreme conditions.
