Two of the world’s biggest boat shows; a first-of-its-kind virtual reality experience; ten boats sold in the one hour; the reveal of two new designs; and a sales turnover of £4 million pounds on the first show day. This is how British luxury boat manufacturer Fairline Yachts kicked off 2017 and their 50th year in the business. As their South African distributors, the team at Boating World think it’s fair to say that this is going to be a year to remember.

Attractions at the London Boat Show and Boot Düsseldorf, both held in January 2017, included live entertainment, interactive stage shows, appearances by Olympic medallists, fashion shows, a fantastic new marina area and of course, thousands of yachts on display from Riveria to Fountaine Pajot and Jeanneau. After a five year absence from Düsseldorf Boat Show, Fairline Yachts made a stunning reappearance with the launch of their third variant of the sophisticated Squadron 53. The boat is based on the existing Squadron 53ft hull but with a new spacious deck designed by the legendary Alberto Mancini. The Squadron 53 is handcrafted to order and has already become a firm favourite with the Boating World team, thanks in no small part to its generous 6ft 4in headroom in the master suite, customisable layout configurations and modern foredeck seating.

The immersive virtual reality experience at the London Boat Show gave showgoers a sneak peek at the Targa 63GTO, due to be unveiled later this year at the Cannes Yachting Festival. The experience transported everyone immediately to a place where visions became reality with birds flying overhead, champagne flowing and turquoise waves gently lapping against the shore. Andy Scott, project manager of ThinkBDW UX – the company responsible for making it happen, said, “No other yacht company had similar technology at the exhibition and it was a first for us.”
Russell Currie, Fairline Managing Director, recently commented, “This time last year I said that our focus will be on creating high quality luxury motor yachts that boaters want to own and dealers want to sell.” 2017 will see Fairline Yachts build 50 yachts to mark their 50th anniversary, and as the South African distributors for Fairline Yachts, the team at Boating World has never been prouder, and more excited to be associated with this fabulous company.

COUACH 38M LOUNGE EXPLORER
French custom yacht builder Couach releases new information on explorer yacht range. The 3800 LOUNGE yacht design draws upon the qualities of reliability and stability for which Couach’ s military vessel pedigree is known, but the range’ s overarching theme is nevertheless a refined and timeless one of French savoir-faire that typifies its luxury yachts. There is no better space that typifies this than the open-plan salon-dining area, which has floor-to-ceiling windows that let light and views of the surroundings flood in, giving the sense of being in a seaside villa. This is a feature that is not often realised on a yacht of this length, and is usually reserved for much larger superyachts. The designer’ s aim is for the owner and guests to forget they are on a yacht, and instead to focus on the luxurious amenities and environment. It has resulted in a modern and uncluttered living space that reflects how owners live ashore, translating it to the unique marine surroundings. As with all Couach yachts, there is a great deal of flexibility when it comes to the interior fit-out, which is custommade by 300 in-house Couach craftsmen.

The 3800 LOUNGE concept can be fashioned to fit a client’s preferences and desires on any manner of finishes and layouts.
