ESB Boats: True German Engineering

You may not consider Namibia a boating hotspot, but believe me; boating there is certainly thriving. With pristine locations such as Oanob and Von Bach dams just a hop, skip and jump away from Windhoek, it’s no wonder that you’ll find a relatively high-tech boat yard close to the capital. Owned and managed by Jürgen Geiger – a very popular name in inland fishing circles – this company has gone from strength to strength in the aluminium boat market to build and customise pontoon boats for just about any application.

I was treated to a tour of the workshop and production areas to find out what makes this company tick, and I think a couple of South African companies could take a full branch of leaves out of this business’s books. Windhoek is a largely of German heritage – and although years have passed sinceNamibia was under German rule, it seems boat building still follows the strict standards of quality.
