If for any reason you think you have caught a fish that might get into the record books, then there are a few important steps set out by the International Game Fishing Association to ensure you
are credited with the record.
You first need to catch the fish and be reasonably sure that it qualifies for record status. If there is a chance it is a world record, head back to the slipway as soon as possible.
Don’t hesitate to get your winning fish back to shore to be weighed. There are a number of factors that can cause the fish to lose precious weight such as moisture loss when leaving the fish in the sun.
Weigh the fish on an IGFAcertified scale. If your boat club doesn’t have one, locate the one closest to you and take the fish there as quickly as possible to be weighed.
